If you organize a garage sale the way you would organize any small business venture, you increase your chances for success. Follow these steps.

Do remember again to check with your neighborhood guidelines and local authorities whether you are allowed to organize a sale of your own. Placing free advertisement on the internet can be a great help to spread the words of your garage sale. Go look for a website of your local community that may also offer free classified listings. The power of internet is very powerful; imagine the millions or billions of traffic waiting for you to get them. This is the information age.

Or you can put up an advertisement in your local newspaper which includes information like the location, schedule and descriptions of any items you will be selling. But using this way of promoting your garage sale, you will need some cash to invest in before hand, not like the free ads on the internet. You choose the way you want to promote your garage sale.

You can place sturdy garage sale signs at street corners leading into your neighborhood to lure direct traffic to your sale. Next is you will need to gather all the garage items you want to sell and sort them out into different categories like for example; toys, clothes, home accessories etc … Placing a price tag on the top or front of each item will save you the trouble of answering the price of each garage items again and again.

Learn More About Garage Sale

Display your garage items in your garage sale on tables where shoppers can walk around the entire area to view them clearly. They will tend to look for cracks and stuffs and ask for a further discount, you have to got a plan to deal with that, it’s a skill you will need to learn and pick up.

You can also bundle similar garage items in your garage sale together for a great deal. This not only will prevent you from being left with odds and ends that no one wants to buy but will also gain you more customers because of your great service and sale.

If you can, hang a clothes line to display clothing and consider separating clothing according to their sizes. This way the customers can have a bird eye view of your garage sale items. This may be a small matter but again make sure you have enough change on hand. If not don’t be lazy and make a trip to the nearest bank or store and get those coins, ones and fives.

Lastly, split the cost of advertisements by conducting a joint garage sale with neighbors if you have any. As per my experience, the good days to hold a garage sale are usually on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as it is a family day where family will have to a great time together shopping togather. Steer away from holiday weekends, as these tend to be traveling weekends.
